Legging anti-transparence : comment vérifier l'opacité d'un legging, avant et après l'achat
Partager
« Squat-proof » means that leggings remain opaque when the leg is fully bent. It's a marketing argument, not a technical standard: no organization certifies it and no numerical threshold defines it. In other words, any brand can write the word on its product sheet.
The good news is that you can check for yourself, in thirty seconds, what no product sheet proves.
Why leggings become transparent
A knit is a surface of threads. When you stretch it, the threads spread apart and the material thins out. Three factors determine the result:
- The density of the knit. The more material per square centimeter, the more remains once the fabric is stretched.
- The direction of the stretch. A knit that stretches in all four directions distributes the deformation. A single-stretch knit concentrates everything in one axis, usually the one that gives way.
- The size worn. Leggings that are too small are already at their stretching limit when at rest. They have no margin left when bent. This is the most common cause, and the only one that depends entirely on you.
The three checks to do at home
1. Full squat in front of a mirror
Put on the leggings, turn your back to a mirror, descend into a full squat position and look over your shoulder. If the color noticeably fades or if the skin becomes visible, the knit is too thin or the size is too small.
2. Backlighting
Still in a bent position, stand with your back to a window or lamp. Direct light is much harsher than living room lighting — and much closer to what others see in a neon-lit gym.
3. Manual stretch
Off the body, pull a piece of fabric in both directions, horizontally then vertically, holding it in front of a light source. A knit that lightens significantly in one direction but not the other has a single stretch. Release: the fabric should return exactly to its original shape, without any deformed areas.
What you can demand from a seller
Before ordering, four pieces of information are worth more than any adjective:
- The fiber composition, mandatory for distance selling and required before purchase.
- Measurements in centimeters, size by size.
- The return period and cost.
- The possibility of returning an item that has been tried on. In France, a seller cannot refuse a return on the grounds that the garment has been tried on: this is the very principle of the right of withdrawal, governed by article L221-23 of the Consumer Code.
A seller who does not publish these elements is asking you to buy blind.
Our position
We will not write here that a test has been carried out on our leggings until we have done so. The fiber composition and size chart in centimeters will be published as soon as they have been measured on an actual sample.
What we guarantee right now: 14 days to change your mind, including trying it on. You can therefore perform the three checks above at home, and return the leggings if they are not suitable for you. The conditions can be found on the delivery and returns page.
